Seasonal Positions:
- Vector Technicians - Perform larviciding and adulticiding activities to control mosquitoes; collect field data regarding mosquitoes
- Clerk Typists - Answer phones, input data into computer data base; must be familiar with word processing and be able to communicate effectively with the public
- Biology Assistants - Assist with the collection and monitoring of mosquito populations and mosquito-borne disease
- Source Reduction Technicians - Perform general land surveying; must be familiar with drafting and use of CAD system
- Tire Collection Technicians - Perform collection of scrap tires during tire drives and residential tire pick ups to eliminate mosquito breeding habitat
- Education Assistant - Assist Education Coordinator with school presentations, projects, and special events
- A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED must be earned prior to June 15, 2008
- Must be 18 years of age before June 30, 2008
- Must have a valid Michigan driver's license with no more than 3 points on record
- Must be proficient in reading maps and following directions
- Ability to interact well with the public
- Must pass a physical with serological studies and drug testing as well as a criminal background check
- 1st year employees must pass the Michigan Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator Core test (MDA core manual study guide available below)
- To receive the returning employee wage, second year employees must pass the Michigan Department of Agriculture 7F Pesticide Applicator Certification test (MDA 7F manual study guide available below)
- All employees must attend a mandatory 12 hour training session held in March. During this session employees will review material for Michigan Department of Agriculture tests. Following the review the tests are administered.
All positions except Tire Collection Technicians start at $7.75 per hour. Second year employees who pass the Michigan Department of Agriculture Certification test will receive $8.75 per hour. Tire Collection Technicians are paid $7.50 per hour.
Seasonal positions are from May through September annually. Full time positions are available on both the day and night shifts. Part time positions are available only on the night shift. Almost half of the jobs at SCMAC require working the night shift. Determination of shift assignments is at the discretion of management.
